Mining Industry Indonesia (MIND ID), an Indonesian state-owned mining holding company, is preparing to raise the nation's aluminum production to 900,000 tons per year by 2029 from the current capacity of 275,000 tons.

According to MIND ID President Director Maroef Sjamsoeddin, the move is to reduce the gap between national supply and demand, which is currently 1.2 million tons annually. The expansion includes a new production facility in Mempawah with an annual production capacity of up to 600,000 tons.

This expansion plan is also part of MIND ID’s commitment to support the manufacturing industry, particularly the growing electric vehicle and battery sectors, and reduce import dependence.

Besides, the company is also building a new bauxite reservoir facility with a yearly capacity of 1.47 million tons in the same area to ensure a steady supply of raw materials.
