ISO & GHG Protocol announce partnership to harmonize carbon standards

18 Sep 2025 13:17 reported by Stanley Wang

A A A

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), an initiative of the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, announced a partnership to align their greenhouse gas (GHG) standards and co-develop new ones.

The agreement will merge the ISO 1406X family of standards with the GHG Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting, Scope 2 and Scope 3 Standards into harmonized co-branded international standards. The organizations also plan a joint product carbon footprint standard to meet growing demand for value chain data.

The harmonized portfolio aims to create a common global language for emissions accounting, ease corporate reporting, support policymakers, and advance progress toward climate goals.
