Malaysian solar company Solarvest and aluminum producer Press Metal are teaming up to develop a 100-megawatt solar farm in Mukah, Sarawak, with an estimated investment of MYR 380 million.

Their joint special purpose vehicle, Mukah Solar Powerplant Sdn Bhd (MSPSB), secured a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Syarikat Sesco Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Bhd. Solarvest holds a 60% equity stake in MSPSB, and Press Metal holds the remainder.

The facility is scheduled to begin commercial operation on November 30, 2027. Solarvest said the project aligns with Sarawak’s energy transition strategy and is expected to offset approximately 46,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The venture is also expected to create up to 2,000 job opportunities for local workers.
