Siemens Mobility to raise share of low-carbon steel in rail vehicle production

Siemens Mobility is stepping up its use of green steel through a new supply agreement with Austrian steelmaker voestalpine. The deal will significantly increase the share of low-carbon steel in the company's rail vehicle production, with a target of around one-fifth green steel by 2025.

The agreement centers on voestalpine's Greentec Steel Edition, a premium product manufactured via a CO2-optimized process that cuts emissions by up to 70% compared to conventional steel.

This partnership expands Siemens Mobility's "Green Steel for Bogies" pilot project, advancing its ambition to slash CO2 emissions by 90% by 2030 on the path to full carbon neutrality by 2050.
