31 Oct 2025 12:40 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Japan’s JFE Bars & Shapes Corporation (JFE条鋼株式会社) has introduced Ecoel®, a new steel product with minimal CO2 emissions. The product uses non-fossil energy to power the electric furnace melting steel scrap, achieving zero CO2 emissions from electricity-related sources (Scope 2).

Ecoel® complies with guidelines established by the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) and the Non-Integrated Steel Producers' Association, and is third-party certified by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK). The certified CO2 data helps customers calculate their Scope 3 emissions. The product offers the same quality and delivery schedule as standard offerings, supporting clients' decarbonization goals.

In the future, the company plans to further reduce CO2 by applying non-fossil fuels to eliminate direct CO2 emissions (Scope 1).
