Alcoa Corporation, Ball Corporation, and Unilever PLC announced the first use of ELYSIS® carbon-free smelting technology in consumer personal and home care packaging. This process eliminates direct greenhouse gas emissions from aluminum production, generating only oxygen.

The resulting aerosol can is a low-carbon packaging solution, utilizing 50% ELYSIS primary aluminum and 50% post-consumer recycled content, one of the packaging solutions with the lowest carbon emissions among similar products currently available.

Alcoa's Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Renato Bacchi, noted the cross-value-chain effort shows how material innovation can achieve tangible sustainability benefits. This debut demonstrates that collaboration can unlock new applications for low-carbon technologies in established markets, meeting global climate goals.
