Baosteel Co., Ltd. announced that it is aligning with Baowu Group’s double carbon goals and has established medium and long-term emission reduction targets based on its operations and low-carbon metallurgical research. Using 2020 as the baseline year, the company aims to cut carbon emissions by 8% in 2025, pursue a 30% reduction by 2035, and work toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Baosteel reported that its four production bases recorded carbon emission intensities of 2.04 tons and 2.00 tons of carbon dioxide per ton of crude steel in 2023 and 2024, respectively. These levels mark decreases of 4.23% and 6.1% from the 2020 figure of 2.13 tons per ton of crude steel, meeting the company’s annual reduction plans.

The company said it will continue advancing its low-carbon development strategy and refining phased contributions toward its targets to address climate risks and ensure goals remain measurable, traceable, and achievable.
