Hazer Group Ltd., an Australian technology development company, announced that it has extended its existing non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with POSCO of South Korea for another two years, until a formal agreement is signed. This move aims to pave the way for the next phase of technology integration and to more comprehensively integrate Hazer's clean hydrogen and low-emission graphite technologies into POSCO's low-carbon steelmaking strategy.

Since the collaboration began in 2024, POSCO has validated Hazer graphite in steelmaking and various industrial processes. Initial results show that the material's performance meets the requirements of low-carbon processes, and subsequent evaluations are ongoing. Hazer technology can utilize natural gas or biogas to simultaneously produce clean hydrogen and high-purity graphite using iron ore catalysis, and is considered a concrete solution for emissions reduction in the steel industry.

The steel industry is a high-carbon industry, accounting for over 8% of global emissions, and major steel mills are actively exploring carbon reduction methods. POSCO has declared its 2050 carbon neutrality target and is promoting transformation in energy, battery materials, and hydrogen energy sectors to support the comprehensive decarbonization of steelmaking processes.

The CEO and Managing Director of Hazer Group, Glenn Corrie, emphasized that the exhibition demonstrates both parties' high confidence in the outcome of their collaboration and their anticipation of opening up more commercial opportunities in the global application of low-carbon steel.
