EMSTEEL accelerates decarbonization with nuclear power integration

31 Dec 2025 16:31 reported by Steven Yen

EMSTEEL Group (EMSTEEL), the UAE’s leading steelmaker, has advanced its decarbonization efforts by partnering with Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC) to integrate clean energy from the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant. This makes EMSTEEL the first in the region to use Clean Energy Certificates from nuclear energy, enabling its steel division to achieve 86% clean energy and significantly reduce Scope 2 emissions.

The collaboration comes full circle. EMSTEEL supplied 160,000 tonnes of nuclear-grade rebar for the construction of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, and now the plant powers EMSTEEL’s green transition.

Consuming about 1.48 million MWh of nuclear energy annually alongside solar, EMSTEEL is on track to reach 100% clean energy by 2030, leveraging the UAE’s low-carbon infrastructure to lead sustainable industrial manufacturing.
