Outokumpu, a Finland-based stainless steel producer, has launched a collaboration with Norway-based Norsk e-Fuel to convert carbon side streams from its steelmaking operations into eSAF.

Under the partnership, Outokumpu will supply carbon monoxide (CO) side streams generated during its ferrochrome production, which Norsk e-Fuel will process into eSAF using renewable energy and advanced technologies. This initiative aims to recycle carbon emissions into useful resources.

Outokumpu said the project is expected to deliver a direct reduction of approximately 200,000 tons of carbon emissions. This collaboration also advances the company's sustainability targets by integrating steel-related carbon into fuel production, promoting a circular approach to emission reduction.
