ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel, has become the first integrated steel mill in India to receive certification under the new Green Steel Taxonomy, achieving a four-star rating for its hot-rolled coils and sheets and a three-star rating for its cold-rolled coils and sheets, officially joining the government's low-carbon steel certification system.

This certification, which requires carbon emissions of less than 2.2 tons per ton of finished steel, was approved by the National Institute of Secondary Steel Technology (NISST). Through its natural gas-fired Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) process, the company has reduced its emissions intensity by over 35% since 2015. In the fiscal year 2025, its intensity was 14% lower than the national average.

AM/NS India has already commercially supplied green steel, widely used in the automotive, infrastructure, and engineering equipment sectors, and plans to continue investing in renewable energy, aiming to further reduce its emissions intensity by 20% by 2030 compared to 2021, accelerating the decarbonization of India's steel industry.
