Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has signed an exclusive agreement to buy 100% of Aluminium Dunkerque from AIP VII EUROPE S.a.r.l., a wholly owned subsidiary of AIP Fund VII. This transaction brings together the world’s largest single-site smelter and the European Union’s top primary aluminum producer.

Based in France, Aluminium Dunkerque produces 300,000 tons of aluminium annually.

Alba intends to provide long-term industrial ownership, focusing on operational stability, sustainable innovation, and continued investment. The Bahrain-based company commits to preserving jobs, maintaining safety standards, and supporting Europe’s energy transition. The acquisition involves a cash payment supported by bank financing.

Besides, Alba offered a shareholding position to Bpifrance, a French public investment bank. Closing depends on regulatory approvals and union consultations, with completion expected in 2026.
