Novelis halts Georgia recycling plant operations after blast

A weekend explosion and subsequent fires at the Novelis facility in Greensboro, Georgia, forced a temporary shutdown. The blast originated in a bag house, causing significant structural damage and igniting aluminum scrap and conveyor belts. All 16 crew members evacuated safely without injuries.

The site recycles used beverage cans into ingots for sheet production. While the company provides no timeline for reopening, it expects minimal impact on packaging customers. Novelis plans to use its alternative casting operations in New York and Kentucky to maintain supply if necessary.
