Tata Steel has launched its first scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) in Ludhiana, investing approximately Rs 3,200 crore. This facility has a capacity to produce 0.75 million tons of steel per year.

The plant uses 100% steel scrap as raw material, with 40% supplied from the company's Rohtak recycling plant. By utilizing nearly 50% renewable energy, the site limits CO2 emissions to under 0.3 tons per ton of steel.

This project supports the company's goal to reach Net Zero emissions by 2045. Output will consist of "Tata Tiscon" construction-grade rebar, intended to increase the firm's share in the construction market through circular economy technology.
