Hydro secures 1.75 TWh power deal with Alpiq for 2031-2038 period

27 Mar 2026 16:00 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Hydro Energi AS, a fully owned subsidiary of Norwegian aluminum company Norsk Hydro, has entered a long-term power purchase agreement with Swiss energy company Alpiq, covering 219 GWh annually from 2031 to 2038, an aggregated total of 1.75 TWh delivered in Norwegian electricity price area NO3.

The renewable-based supply supports Hydro's aluminum operations in Norway, where its carbon footprint runs approximately 75% below the global industry average.

The deal is part of a procurement strategy that combines long-term contracts with new renewable project investments and upgrades to Hydro's existing power assets, all aimed at reaching zero emissions by 2050.
