Gerdau, the largest steel producer in Brazil, has launched Gerdau NewEco, a product line designed to assist customers with decarbonization.

This new portfolio utilizes a production matrix centered on ferrous scrap recycling and 100% renewable electricity. By recycling 10 million tons of scrap annually, Gerdau currently maintains an emission intensity of 0.85 t CO₂e per ton of steel, roughly half the global industry average. The company aims to reach a target of 0.82 t CO₂e by 2031.

Third-party audits verify the emission data to ensure transparency for clients in the automotive and construction sectors. According to CEO Gustavo Werneck, this initiative provides a competitive solution for businesses navigating the transition toward a low-carbon economy and a circular value chain.
