Taiwan implements new customs codes for aluminum structures and glass curtain walls to prevent China’s origin washing

To prevent origin washing and improve trade oversight, Taiwan's International Trade Administration established specific customs codes for aluminum structures and glass curtain walls.

Previously, these materials fell under a general category, which created loopholes for prohibited Chinese goods. Industry groups, including the Taiwan Glass Industry Association, requested this change to improve data accuracy and safety regarding building structures.

Effective on April 7, the authority replaced the previous category, CCC7610.90.00.00-9, with two distinct designations. One covers aluminum structures and glass curtain walls under CCC7610.90.00.10-7, while the other includes other completed aluminum structures and components under CCC7610.90.00.90-0.

China-origin products remain prohibited under these new classifications. The action aligns with Article 8-1 of the Enforcement Rules of the Foreign Trade Act, ensuring precise monitoring of import volumes and sources.
