Ukraine & Sweden simplify carbon border mechanism accreditation procedures

24 Apr 2026 13:53 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
Ukraine and Sweden finalized an agreement to simplify accreditation procedures for verifiers under the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). This deal allows Ukrainian exporters to utilize actual greenhouse gas emission data, rather than default inflated values.

Discussions included Deputy Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, representatives of the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment (SWEDAC), and European Commission officials. SWEDAC intends to accredit local verification bodies by utilizing the technical base of the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine (NAAU).

This collaboration provides a solution to logistical problems preventing foreign experts from entering Ukraine due to martial law. Both nations are currently finalizing the legal framework and regulations for this joint verification process to maintain industrial trade competitiveness in the European Union.
