Stockland & ArcelorMittal collaborate for low-carbon construction

A A A
Stockland, one of the largest diversified property groups in Australia, has partnered with ArcelorMittal and Jsteel to integrate XCarb® recycled and renewable steel into Australian property projects.

This collaboration addresses embodied carbon, a major challenge in real estate. XCarb® products utilize Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology with 100% recycled scrap and renewable electricity, cutting embodied carbon emissions by about 87% compared to traditional blast furnace methods.

The initial application is at Momenta, a multi-storey logistics facility in Banksmeadow, Sydney. Featuring structural XCarb® steel beams, the project incorporates water harvesting, solar energy, smart lighting, and biophilic landscape design. These features target a 36% reduction in embodied carbon and a 5 Star Green Star rating.

This agreement provides the logistical support required to incorporate sustainable materials, supporting Stockland’s net-zero goals across its industrial portfolio.
