ArcelorMittal provides low-carbon steel for Daimler Truck’s reECONIC concept vehicle

7 May 2026 13:44 reported by Joy Liu

A A A
ArcelorMittal supplied Daimler Truck with XCarb® recycled and renewably produced steel for the "reECONIC" concept battery-electric waste collection vehicle.

This partnership utilizes the low-emission material for essential structural components, including chassis rails and body structures. These steel parts have an average recycled content of roughly 88%.

The initiative proves that recycled materials can meet strict safety and durability standards without requiring changes to existing manufacturing processes. By using these alternatives, vehicle production emissions could drop by 36%. Compared to standard steel, this low-carbon option reduces emissions by 60 to 70%.

Following its debut at the IFAT trade fair in Munich, the vehicle will undergo real-world testing to evaluate the feasibility of full-scale series production.
